What’s New
Paytm has just unlocked a powerful feature — you can now link your RuPay credit card to UPI. This means instead of swiping your card at a POS machine, you can simply scan a QR code and pay using your credit line via UPI.
Why This Matters
- Everyday Credit Access — Pay with credit even at your local chaiwala or kirana store.
- Boost for Merchants — Even small shops that never had card machines can now accept your credit card (via UPI QR).
- Simple Setup — No new apps or bank visits, just link directly inside the Paytm app.
- More RuPay Push — This is part of NPCI’s effort to make RuPay more competitive against Visa and Mastercard.
In short: your credit card now works like a UPI ID.
How It Works
- Open Paytm App → UPI Services
- Choose “Link RuPay Credit Card”
- Select your bank and set a UPI PIN
- Start scanning QR codes & choose the card as your payment source
No swipes. No machines. Just UPI + credit.
Benefits &
Cautions
Benefits:
- Earn credit card rewards on UPI spends
- Make bigger purchases using your credit limit
- Safer — protected by UPI PIN & card issuer’s security
Caveats:
- Works only for merchant payments (P2M), not for sending money to friends/family
- Your spend still counts toward your credit card bill—don’t overspend.
This is more than just convenience — it blurs the line between UPI and credit cards. For users, it’s easier credit access. For banks, it means higher card usage. For merchants, it reduces dependency on expensive POS machines.
It’s a win-win, but keep an eye on your credit card bill—because UPI payments can add up fast!
