Hotel points or airline miles?
With the new partnership between World of Hyatt and Aeroplan, travelers no longer have to choose.
The two loyalty programs have unveiled a reciprocal partnership that allows members to link their accounts, unlock elite status opportunities, convert points between programs, and even earn rewards across both ecosystems.
For frequent travelers, this is much more than another transfer partnership—it’s a deeper integration between a global hotel chain and one of North America’s leading airline loyalty programs.
What’s New?
Once members link their World of Hyatt and Aeroplan accounts, they can:
• Convert World of Hyatt points into Aeroplan points at a 2:1 ratio
• Redeem Hyatt points for Aeroplan Flight Reward Certificates, which can be used toward Air Canada award flights
• Choose to earn 500 Aeroplan points per eligible Hyatt stay instead of Hyatt points
• Receive exclusive promotions and offers available only to linked members
Elite Members Get Even More
Hyatt elite members receive additional benefits after linking their accounts:
• Discoverist, Explorist, and Globalist members receive an annual CAD 20 Air Canada flight credit
• Explorists and Globalists will soon receive an annual opportunity to fast-track to Aeroplan Elite Status through a 90-day status challenge.
Double-Dipping for Aeroplan Credit Cardholders
One of the biggest highlights is the ability for eligible Aeroplan Credit Cardholders in Canada to earn rewards in both programs simultaneously when staying at Hyatt hotels.
Depending on the card variant, members can earn:
• Up to 2.5 Aeroplan points per CAD 1 spent
• Up to 2 World of Hyatt Bonus Points per CAD 1 spent
Premium Aeroplan cardholders also receive:
• Complimentary World of Hyatt Discoverist status
• Two Hyatt status challenges every year
• Five Tier-Qualifying Nights annually toward Hyatt elite status
Why People Are Paying Attention
This isn’t just another “transfer partner” announcement.
It’s a true reciprocal loyalty partnership, where airline status, hotel status, points earning, and elite benefits are all becoming interconnected.
We’ve seen similar collaborations between Marriott and airlines in the past, but this partnership goes a step further by rewarding members regardless of whether they’re flying or staying.
The Bigger Picture
Loyalty programs are evolving from standalone ecosystems into connected travel networks.
Rather than asking members to stay loyal to one brand, airlines and hotel groups are increasingly rewarding customers across the entire travel journey.
For Hyatt and Aeroplan members, this means more ways to earn, redeem, and progress toward elite status without changing travel habits.
While many of the enhanced earning benefits are currently exclusive to eligible Canadian Aeroplan Credit Cardholders, the broader partnership demonstrates how integrated travel loyalty programs are becoming—and could set the stage for similar collaborations in other markets.
