HDFC Bank is updating how complimentary airport lounge access works for debit card users — and the rules are getting stricter from January 10, 2026.
What’s Changing?
No more card swipes for entry
Starting 10 January 2026, you cannot just swipe your debit card at the lounge to get in. Lounge access will switch to a voucher-based system.
Higher spending requirement
The minimum quarterly spend required to be eligible for a lounge voucher has doubled:
Old requirement: ₹5,000 per calendar quarter
New requirement: ₹10,000 per calendar quarter on your HDFC Bank debit card
(Eligible online or in-store spends count; ATM withdrawals, UPI/wallet payments, credit card bill payments and EMI spends do not).
Voucher instead of swipe
Once you hit the ₹10,000 quarterly threshold, the bank will send you an SMS/email with a link to claim your lounge access voucher. After claiming, you’ll receive a 12–18-digit code or QR code to show at the lounge for entry.
Voucher validity
Once issued, vouchers are valid until the end of the next calendar quarter. For example, a voucher claimed on Jan 10, 2026 will remain valid until June 30, 2026.
Visit caps stay unchanged
The number of complimentary lounge visits per quarter depends on your debit card variant — e.g., Millennia (1), Platinum (2), Business (2), Infiniti (4) — same as before.
What Counts as Eligible Spend?
Qualifying spends for the quarterly ₹10,000 requirement include:
- Online purchases
- In-store debit card transactions
But they exclude:
ATM cash withdrawals
UPI or mobile wallet payments
Debit card EMI payments
Credit card bill payments
So you’ll need actual purchases on your debit card to clock eligible spending.
Why HDFC Bank Made These Changes
HDFC says the move to a digital voucher system and higher spend thresholds aims to:
Make lounge access more organized and controlled,
Ensure perks go to active users, and
Reduce misuse of free access.
Only Infiniti debit cardholders continue to enjoy lounge access without any minimum spending condition.
