The list of ways to use Membership Rewards points just got a little shorter.
American Express has confirmed that Etihad Guest will cease to be a Membership Rewards transfer partner in India from 1 July 2026, as part of a broader global wind-down of the partnership.
For many cardholders, this may not be a major loss. But for those who regularly transferred MR points to Etihad Guest for premium cabin redemptions, partner airline awards, or Abu Dhabi-bound trips, this closes off another redemption avenue.
A Quick Recap
• Membership Rewards → Etihad Guest transfers will end on 1 July 2026
• Transfers remain available until 30 June 2026
• Existing Etihad Guest miles are unaffected
• This is part of a global Amex–Etihad partnership exit
Why Frequent Flyers Are Paying Attention
Transfer partners are what give flexible reward currencies their value.
The more airline and hotel partners available, the more options cardholders have when award availability dries up elsewhere.
Every partner departure narrows those options.
While Amex still retains a strong travel partner portfolio, Etihad Guest has historically offered some interesting redemption opportunities, especially for travelers willing to explore partner award charts.
We’ve seen banks and loyalty programs regularly add, remove, and revise transfer partnerships over the years.
Sometimes it barely matters.
Sometimes it completely changes how enthusiasts value a rewards currency.
