Important Update:
If you hold the American Express Gold or Platinum Card, your Uber benefits are changing starting November 8, 2024. Here’s what you need to know:
What’s Changing?
- You’ll now need to pay with an Amex card for an Uber transaction to use your Uber Cash.
- Ensure your Uber app is updated to the latest version to continue accessing the Uber Cash benefit.
How the Benefit Currently Works:
- At the beginning of each month, Uber Cash is deposited into your account if you have an Amex card linked as a payment method.
- Right now, you can use any card to pay if the cost exceeds your Uber Cash balance. Many users leverage cards that offer better rewards for ride-hailing services (like Chase Sapphire Preferred) for the remaining balance.
What’s Changing on Nov. 8:
- Going forward, you’ll only be able to use Uber Cash if you’re paying with an Amex card.
- This means if you’ve been using a card that earns better rewards for ride services, you’ll need to switch to your Amex Platinum or Gold.
What This Means for You:
- If you were earning higher rewards with non-Amex cards, this could affect your points accumulation on Uber rides.
